Concord Church
History
1975–1985: New Beginnings
Concord Church was founded June 29, 1975 by Rev. E.K. Bailey with 228 charter members at Bishop College. Within six months, the church purchased its first property at 3410 South Polk Street and began to experience explosive growth. Major milestones included the "Joy Explosion" evangelistic outreach, the launch of the Institute for Church Growth and Development, and Concord’s first satellite church in Haiti. A strong foundation was built around expository preaching, evangelism, and community service.
1985–1995: Foundation
In the early 1990s, God moved us to higher ground as He matured our leadership. Pastor Bailey established a Council of Elders to partner with him in leading the church forward. This decade was marked by both incredible growth and significant internal challenges. Even through those challenges, it was during that season several ministries were launched including the Concord Center for Biblical Studies, Women’s Ministry, and Substance Abuse Ministry. Despite periods of difficulty, the church laid a deeper foundation for accountability, discipleship, and expanded community outreach.
1995–2005: Transition
A pivotal season of movement and leadership change. Concord purchased 24 acres on Boulder Drive, relocating to what is now Pastor Bailey Drive. During this time, Pastor Bailey battled cancer and trained Rev. Bryan Carter to succeed him. After Pastor Bailey's passing in 2003, Pastor Carter became Senior Pastor, leading with a renewed mission to be "A Church That Makes a Difference," focusing on these five pillars: membership, maturity, missions, ministry, and magnification.
2005-2015: We Grow People
Concord experienced unprecedented growth, expanding worship services and establishing a clear discipleship pathway. Major initiatives included the launch of the Cohabitation Challenge, growth of small groups and Men's/Women's ministries, and the construction ofthe Faith Building in 2013— a testament to God’s faithfulness through the church’s “Great Expectations” capital campaign.
We Grow People became the heartbeat of Concord’s ministry focus—equipping individuals for spiritual maturity, service, and a deeper relationship with Christ.
2015–2025: New Beginnings
This decade reflects Concord’s steadfast faith through seasons of challenge and growth. In 2016, we launched NEXT, investing in the next generation and expanding our campus. That same year, Concord became a place of healing and unity following the Dallas police ambush. In 2019, we launched Reaching the One to deepen discipleship and reach the unchurched. Amid the 2020 pandemic and a national racial reckoning, Concord served over 44,000 people, distributed $3.3M in relief, and led citywide rallies for justice. By 2023– 2024, God brought extraordinary growth, welcoming 4,498 new members and celebrating 718 baptisms—shaping tomorrow’s church through today’s faithfulness.
