Me & My Shepherd Mini-Devotional

"The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever." (Psalm 23)
In Psalm 23, David likens our relationship with God to that of a sheep and a shepherd. Not able to care for themselves, sheep are notorious for wandering off and being easily distracted. God, our shepherd, has assumed total responsibility for our care and wellbeing. He provides restoration, protection and guidance to all who follow him. When a difficult situation arises, let it be a reminder to look to the shepherd for guidance. Once we can admit that we are sheep in constant need of a shepherd, we can trust that His goodness and mercy will follow us all the days or our lives.
(1) Can you recall a time when you have wandered off, or been distracted from following the shepherd?
(2) In what ways has the shepherd guided, protected, or restored you lately?
