Devotional: Finding Joy in the Journey

June 01, 2016 | Gloria Harrison

"James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes scattered among the nations: Greetings. Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters,[a] whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything." (James 1:1-4)

Our faces do not always reveal what we have been through or might even be going through at the present; but this assurance we have, and that is whatever the trial, it is just the testing of our faith.

We cannot circumvent trials; they serve as a constant reminder that we live in a fallen world and that difficulties will continue. Trials, however nefarious they might be, and even when life itself seems like one big nemesis; God is yet working behind the scene to develop us from within and will bring it to completion in His own time.
Therefore, our goal, our aim, should be to remain in a state of joyfulness regardless of how our circumstances might appear; knowing that when patience has done its work, we will be perfect and complete lacking nothing.

“There is no pit so deep, that God’s love is not deeper still.”—Corrie ten Boom

Father, may we always realize the vastness of Your love, and that whatever you allow to penetrate our lives, You have given us the power to sustain it completely. Grant us the patience to endure, clothed us in humility that our image will reflect Your Son and in return others will be encouraged and offer glory to You, our Father.
